Awesome Geeky Dream alert

I suspect I've just woken up from the geekiest dream ever. I was 'watching' a film where Transformers, Aliens (and ergo Predators) all existed within the Star Wars universe. The plot revolved around an Jedi Autobot on a solo mission to stop the Empire releasing a genetically modified Xenomorph on Earth.

I can't be alone in thinking this sounds amazing can I?

Think of the possibilities? although I'm sleepy so I'm struggling past Predators with lightsabers...

Posting it on Facebook led to this conversation:

And maybe something will come from this sad little tweet

because my own attempts are rubbish!

but it works....

Merry Christmas!

Yep - still can't decorate a cake!

Merry Christmas everyone!! - we haven't sent many Christmas cards (although we did a charity donation to St Luke's Hospice) this year being as we're in Stafford for the festivities -. We'll be skipping around some pubs later on tonight (once Pete has finished work, and we've had some food, providing he can still face being around people - bless him, he came home yesterday and couldn't face socialising after a very busy day at work - he was in bed by 10pm!) So we should see most of you to wish you Merry Christmas in person.

If we don't see you, we hope you have a very lovely, relaxing and fun time - that if you've travelled anywhere you got there safely and it wasn't too horrible and that you have a great day, with lovely food, exciting presents and no one gets in the way of you watching the Dr. Who Christmas Special. (5:15pm, BBC1)

Love Nia & Pete xxx

It's been a slightly random month...

I didn't mean to leave this a month - I'm not entirely sure where the last month has gone. A whirlwind of lectures, networking, stuff, Pete's gigs (see #openmicgems), things, games - some of which I have pictures of.
Pete playing at The Adam & Eve in Brum
I've been playing Curisoity - I don't understand it.
At the recent Launch conf I learnt Intel have spend their marketing budget on interesting things. Yes, that is a branded peanut
Stunning views from the 25th floor of the Hotel Indigo (more here)
And one of my students named his squad after tutors on FTL, then killed us all - that's cool, we're down with that (It happens a lot)

It's Christmas lights switch on tonight, Olly is coming to stay for the weekend and Pete has a gig later - fun times ahead

One of those Zeitgeist-y days: BCN Edition

How odd, when everywhere you look you see references to where you're off to next on your travels. Jess mentioned it in a Facebook post, someone else put their holiday snaps from BCN up and then I saw this:

I'm off with Jess & Becky at the end of November to go see mam and do some Christmas shopping / soak up some sunshine and drink pick n mix beer. We're also off to Fira de Santa LlĂșcia - visiting which is fast becomming my favorite Christmas tradition.

Posters & T-Shirts

It is done, it is finished - Back to normality next week. I really love Welcome Week, but answering all those questions and helping everyone else even takes its toll on my usually sunny disposition.

A few bright points - We have a few new posters for the office - this is situated so we can pretend we have a view

and when we work out how to laminate it we can add details like this..

And I have new t-shirts (T-shirts on the left from Qwertee's InsaniTEE Sale - I think I lucked out on the Iron Man one) The House Lannister one is from Something Geeky

T-Shirts for a New Term

It's no secret I love geeky, awesome mashup t-shirts, Well, I love tshirts full stop but there's few better complements you can pay some one, or indeed openers at a networking event then to note the awesomeness of someone's t-shirt.

In the last few years finding cool t-shirts has become an awful lot easier - and where previously everyone would have the same one nerdy t-shirt from River Island, Topman or Primark (doubly annoying in my case since all the students would have it too, and it would be painfully obvious where I shopped, and in the mens sections too). This also means I can get girly fit t-shirts not huge XXL shapeless t-shirts - although I have two treasured Bruce Timm designed tshirts from the era when that was all you could get (Batgirl and Supergirl of course). Someitmes cool stuff turns up in TXMaxx and  Her Universe have done a lot in this area too, but I can't really justify the shipping from the states.

Which is nice to see some print to order, or one a day tshirt sellers have UK prices, with sensible UK shipping to boot. My current favourites are RedBubble & Qwertee and I've got these two lovely designs to wear for induction week...

(I also have 2 t-shirts from the Qwertee "InsaniTEE Sale - Random Tees!" sale - knowing my luck I'll get the only 2 tshirts from the likely ones I had to Google - I'll let you know when they turn up)

According to my colleagues it's weird that I'm happy my new title at work after the faculty shake up has an ampersand in it (more then one actually):

I'm now ...

"Senior Lecturer
School of Art & Design
Faculty of Arts & Creative Technologies"

It's even stranger it seems to collect pretty ampersands in a pinterest board

I just really love the symbol & - everyone surely has a favorite typographic character don't they?

Watching the crowd

I'm in proper 'Blues Widow' mode tonight, in a pub in Newcastle under Lyme, which has excellent beer and a bookshelf (I'm reading Bill Bryson Down Under and drinking Timothy Taylor pub landlord in case you were wondering) - but I'm also paying attention, not to Pete, its not like it's the first time I've heard 'Salvation' - but I'm paying attention to everyone else, people are nodding their heads, tapping their feet, swaying slightly to him playing... the audience is enjoying themselves and the applause is genuine, which is easily my favourite sounds of the night...

Blog Upgrade Complete

So the task I started a few weeks ago is finally complete - I've migrated my domain name over to the ever trusty Vidahost - (where SixFourOne & 44Pistol are both dealt with) - and you'll noticed I've done away (finally) with the iframes / shell and everything is under the domain name I had as a 16th birthday present.

It should save a little bit of money - not actually paying for monthly hosting I don't use, and tidy up things a little. I kept thinking it was a useful thing to have, and then not using it - since DropBox / Picasa / Pinterest / Evernote where much more useful for keeping a track of everything I had around. Annoyingly, I have to phone the states to cancel my hosting account - but hopefully that shouldn't be too tricky, it can't be any more problematic then trying to deal with BT...

I've messed around with the visual settings on Blogger and I've got something I like, bright lovely colours and it does make it very nice and easy to update the colour schemes etc. Hopefully I should have updated the settings on Twitterfeed correctly so this should bounce to Twitter and Facebook with no problems either. It might even encourage me to write a little more too.

There's very little else - I've been on holiday all week, so I've been playing masses of Anno 2070, doing tiny bite sized bits of housework and shopping and planning for my birthday party on Sunday and a holiday to Augsburg - oh, and we're starting to plan / book our Big trip to New Orleans and the Deep South of the USA next year! Yeah for Travel!!

Dear BBC...

..please let your weather report be right, I'd like a sunny birthday please =D

Man/Woman/Entity #1

Further proof, as if needed, that my husband and I are pretty much the same person

We are, however, rather enjoying having identical new phones (Galaxy SII's - his black, mine white) and I think Pete is just glad to have a smart phone that's actually smart...

Worm's world upgrade..

I've realised my blog looked a little unloved, which isn't fair, because having read though 4 years worth of it yesterday I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed posting in it.

With that in mind, and the fact that I've clearly tried to make up for the fact that I've been to busy to write things by filling it with pretty pictures I've been playing around with the dynamic templates on blogger - both on here and on NomBooks

I give you Worm's World v7.2 - What do you think?

My Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge

Because I'm finally caught up on important things like Tumblr and Pinterest since getting back a little early from #Wearncamp12 I saw this earlier, which led to:

and since I always like a challenge, and a spreadsheet - this...

I've already read 76 of them, thankfully all the Austins and Brontes on the list so I don't have to revisit those (thank's A-Level English lit for putting me off anything with a crinolin) but I'm sure this is the crazy things E-Readers were made for...

(I don't actually like the Gilmore Girls, but that's by the by)

Decorating the downstairs bathroom

There comes a time when you can't put off the fact that a room in your house needs redecorating, really badly. We've reached this point with the downstairs bathroom - now we've gotten over the trauma of the upstairs bathroom it's time to tackle the shower room.

I've got a pinterest board with a general idea of what we're going for, but who do you decided between those lovely shades of grey for the walls? (we'll we've discounted the top one for being too dark, but choosing between the other 3 is leading to a lot of very dull discussion, and standing in the downstairs bathroom at various times of the day trying to work out an answer...)

(My those £1.20 Primark tea towels look good framed)

I'm rubbish at Drawsome...

... but that is't going to stop me..

Feel free to add a game - username Wormella

Also, it's taken me 6 months to work out how to take screen shots with my phone - it took my phone seconds and I've got a whole gallery of my start screen where it's taken them by mistake...

Back form Portugal!

Ola! Bom Dia! etc etc etc.

I'm back from an Able project trip to Portugal - with an exciting find...

First mentioned back in Feb 2010 - I've been searching for Computer Engineer Barbie since it was launched, on and off for about 2 years. low and behold guess what they've got, randomly in the 2nd, smaller, Easyjet only terminal in Lisbon airport:

She'll be moving to the office later today....

also, check out this dude on an postcard..

I did think about buying some salt cod for Mr. Wearn, but decided the smelly cheese was probably bad enough. Food was very yummy in Portugal, so I think I'll use my first amazon associates payment to buy some Portuguese cookbooks...

Awesome little growhouse

Because we're cool, young, sexy hipsters - we're members of the Wyvale Garden Centers Gardening Club - which means we got this lovely little coldframe for half price.
We're going  to get some mini tomatos on the go, and some pretty flowers, we're just not sure what else to plant - any ideas?

Every Friday should be a New T-shirt Friday

It's just a good thing I don't live in the states, I love awesome, nerdy, geeky, cool t-shirts in the same way other women love shoes and handbags....

It's pretty much shipping and handling that keeps me in check...

Oldest Pubs in the UK

We spent the weekend in St Albans celebrating the engagement of some friends, and one of the things on our to do list was a pint in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, an amusingly titled pub, that's a contender for the title of the Oldest pub / inn in Britain (technically it's the one in the Guinness Book for records) - Now, previously on a trip to Nottingham we'd visited Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which also claims the same title...

So, the easiest way to make sure we have defiantly gone to the very oldest pub in Britain is to visit them all right..
View Oldest Pubs in the UK in a larger map

This may be our summer holiday....

(my other suggestion would be to visit every pub with the words 'Ye Olde' in the title, but that would be messy I suspect...)
